LTE HSS migration from WiMAX AAA

1. Reference
Supplied Diameter based HSS to ETRI(3GPP Release 5), September 2003
Provided subscriber profile for IP Multimedia service
Diameter interface for sub-system integration

Supplied Diameter based HSS to Seoul Commtech
Provided Diameter Protocol and Interface
Provided HSS GUI

HSS Upgrade based on 3GPP Release 9
Developed Release 9 Interface
Applied Proxy/Server function to support various HSS
Applied Hierarch architectural DB to support Multi service

2. Features
Server & Proxy mode simultaneously
Diameter & RADIUS simultaneously
Secure and location management
HLR/AUC function for PC/CS Domain
Subscriber DB for SIP-based CS Service
Subscriber DB for PS service support
Subscriber DB for Multimedia/Multiple service(IMSI, TMSI, IMEI, MSISDN)
Support for various subscriber identities
Support for Multiple Sub- identities
Active-Active Redundancy and Database Replication
3GPP Release 9 standards compliant
Interface with 3GPP-AAA
IP-based SS7 interface support
CS-based SS7 Interface support
Multiple routing the Accounting messages
Interface with provisioning server via http
Easy functional extension by modularized software
High scalability by adding CPU, Memory and HDD
High performance by Memory Database

3. Concept fo LTE migration from WiMAX AAA
WiMAX network will be integrated with LTE network.

3.1 Access integration
Evolution from 3GPP compliant
WiMAX or WiFi network will become the sub-access network of LTE
WiMAX AAA will be integrated with HSS by Diameter protocol and
WiMAX ASN-GW will be integrated with LTE backbone
WiMAX AAA will be integrated with Wireless LAN by Proxy/Server mode

3.2 Core integration
WiMAX AAA supports WiMAX forum NWG
AAA will include the HSS function based on 3GPP(LTE) standard
User profiles of AAA will include the service profile for HSS by 3GPP(LTE)
So proposed AAA can support both WiMAX AAA and 3GPP HSS

4. Network Architecture

5. Logical Function
Mobility Management: user mobility through CS, PS Domain and IM CN
Call and/or session establishment support
- terminating traffic and/or call session control
User security information generation
- The HSS generates user authentication, integrity and ciphering data
- User security support
User identification handling
- IMSI and MSISDNs for CS Domain
- IMSI, MSISDNs and IP addresses for PS Domain, private identity and public identities(SIP-URI, TEL-URI, USIM, ISIM …)
Access authorization
- SGSN, 3GPP AAA Server (WLAN) or CSCF
- Roamer from that visited network.
Service authorization support
- Serving entities (i.e., SGSN, 3GPP AAA Server, CSCF)
Service Provisioning Support
- Application Services (SIP AS, OSA-SCS)

6. Key management by 3GPP

7. Unified Profile Concept
